Artist Profile

Peggy Artist PhotoPeggy Kupper never colored “pigs pink” Her innate interest has always bordered on the unconventional. Although she studied art in college, her creativity flourished better without instructors who insisted on following “formats.” To Peggy, art was to enjoy – to have fun. According to her, ” A camera can capture realism.” A canvas should capture the creativity of the artist.

Peg’s subjects capture her love of the out-of-doors woodland creatures, outdoor sports, and open space landscapes where she has lived and played her whole life. Living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, drew her to the wildlife of the area – bears, moose, deer, elk, and a host of other critters. However, in the shops she found few wildlife themes in Christmas ornaments.

When Peg’s two boys were small, she always enjoyed bringing home souvenirs, especially ornaments, from her travels. The search for quality crafted ornaments often left her frustrated. So, she decided to make her own!

Her first venture into the hand-crafted ornament world was salt dough ornaments and old fashion wooden pull strings. After her first art show she was amazed by the popularity of her woodland moose and bear designs. The ornaments she created were then introduced at a local Christmas store and became an instant hit!

Thus was born Mother Moose Enterprises®. From humble beginnings around a kitchen table in 1986, to a flourishing business today, the Kuppers live the American dream – a business of their own, combining talents, skills, creative genius, and perseverance to make it happen. With Peggy’s keen and discerning eye for interesting designs she now collaborates with partner artists to meet the ever increasing needs of Mother Moose customers. “It’s important to keep work fun and not let it over burden one’s life.”

Reaching children of all ages through stories remains one of Peg’s dreams. She would like to write and illustrate playful children’s books. With Mother Moose as her guide, she may just may reach that dream!

Peggy’s newest venture is into the fine arts with bronze. If you are interested in learning more about some of her very first limited edition bronzes, go to MontanaMoose.com. The moose bronze is exceptional.

Living in Jackson Hole, Peggy and Larry Kupper developed a passion for the outdoors and wildlife. One day Peggy decided to make some whimsical wood animal ornaments for a local craft fair, for more fun than anything else. The wildlife ornaments sold like crazy and it quickly became apparent that there was a larger market for these fun loving creations. Hence the Paws ‘N Claus ornament line was created by Mother Moose in 1986. It originally started around the kitchen table but quickly they moved the operation to the garage and a few ornament crafters were hired. Larry managed the business and Peggy provided the innovative new product designs. All ornaments were handmade and hand painted being sold at local stores. Mother Moose flourished with its unique whimsical designs.

In 1994 Mother Moose needed to make a change so that they could keep up with demand. Jackson Hole no longer fit their business needs and a move to Missoula, MT ensued. Business in Missoula was strong and in 2000 it was decided to out source to better meet customer needs. Mother Moose is now in its 27th successful year of business continuing to design quality gifts that people love and treasure.
